NOT AN APOLOGY!!! |
|
What does responsibility mean? When one does something wrong, one admits to it and accepts the consequences of their actions. When Collier County School Board member Richard Calabrese approached a female Naples Daily News reporter from behind and placed his lips on her bare shoulder he used poor judgment and did something wrong. Rather than admit his behavior was wrong he choose to blame others and dismissed it as a misunderstood joke that was blown out of proportion by his enemies. This is an apology ? NO !
The fact that the victim of this act and this paper went along with this is very disturbing. The fact that almost no one seems to be aware or care is even more disturbing. How low have our standards sunk to when we as a community permit an elected official to escape responsibility in such a manner? Sexual harassment is wrong! It is not a misunderstood joke!
Our leaders can escape responsibility for their bad behavior. Is that the lesson we want for the students of our schools who will become our future leaders?
On Thursday, October 18 at 2 pm the School Board will address this issue Will we be there as a community to uphold a higher community standard ? Will we hold our elected officials accountable? What legacy will we leave to the students in our schools?
